Welcome to Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey! This page provides the information you will need to get off to a productive start on campus. The following information is provided in preferred order of activity.
New Employee Welcome and Benefits Orientation
New Brunswick Campus
The New Employee Welcome and Benefits Orientation is held every week at University Human Resources and provides valuable information about the university and your employee benefits. Hiring Authorities should enroll new full-time Class 1 or Class 6 employees within one week of hire date. If your supervisor does not sign you up for this session, please inquire about attending by calling 848-932-3990
Camden and Newark Campuses
New employees on the Rutgers–Camden and Rutgers–Newark campuses will be offered programs on their respective campus. For more information, contact the Rutgers–Camden Human Resources Office at 856-225-6475 or the Rutgers–Newark Human Resources Office at 973-353-5500.
At the New Employee Welcome and Benefits Orientation session, you will be given a packet of benefit information and election forms. All benefits information will be explained at this session, based upon your employment type (faculty, staff, TA/GA). You can contact a Benefits Specialist at 848-932-3990 to get information, if you are unable to attend a session. Visit the Benefits webpage to learn more about benefit programs available to you. A large variety of employee discounts and services are available through Rutgers University.
The RUconnection Card provides you with a university identification (ID), access to certain facilities, and library access. Regularly salaried (Class 1) faculty and staff can receive their RUconnection Card during the New Employee Welcome and Benefits Orientation program. Please complete the RUconnection Request Form and bring it, along with a government issued photo identification, on the day of the program.
If you wish to receive your card at another time, complete the required RUconnection Request Form and visit one of the RUconnection Card offices on the New Brunswick Campus (TA/GAs: campus housing offices and RU Express Office; faculty and staff: ASB II), the IMPACT BOOTH on the Camden Campus, or the Photo ID Office on the Newark Campus.
Email and Computer System Access
Computing services are available through the Office of Information Technology. Learn about the computing services that are offered at Rutgers and obtain your email address and NetID to access university online systems. All employees are required to have a NetID upon employment.
All employees are expected to understand the importance of ethics at Rutgers University. New employees will receive, and be expected to review and become familiar with, copies of the Rutgers University Code of Ethics and the Rutgers Plain Language Guide to Fundamental Ethics and Conflicts Rules Established by State Law, Federal Law, and University Policy. New employees will be provided the Receipt and Acknowledgement form during the New Employee Welcome and Benefits Orientation program.
Temporary Permits
If you attend the weekly New Employee Welcome and Benefits Orientation in Rutgers–New Brunswick, your department can provide your car information along with your orientation registration. This will allow you to park on campus for 30 days. In addition, your new department can request a temporary parking permit.
Faculty and Staff Permits
All new employees can purchase a parking permit online or in person at their campus parking office. Visit the Department of Transportation Services website for the fee schedule, parking maps, and other transportation resources.

Note: Failure to complete appropriate enrollment forms within the specified time frame may result in delay of coverage, compulsory enrollment, or loss of coverage.

Rutgers has an extensive web site with many useful resources, including links to all the official university web pages, such as colleges, schools, and academic departments. There are also links to pages for finding campus phone numbers and email addresses of faculty, staff, and students, a comprehensive calendar of events, a building directory; and online maps for directions to on-campus locations.
Campus Information Services
Campus Information Services serves as Rutgers' central source for information and referral and is a credible, accessible gateway to Rutgers and its community. RU-info's services include the RU-info Call Center, Ask Colonel Henry email Q&A service, the online Calendar of Events; Off-Campus Housing Service; online campus maps and map distribution; and free historical tours. In addition to offering more than 60 channels in its video network, RU-tv provides opportunities for student production, university programming, and academic support.
